TRUSTEE PERSPECTIVE
Sandie Mullins' life
focuses on commitment to community. As Houston Community College Board
Trustee for District VI, she offers a background that uniquely complements the
HCC Board of Trustees. Mullins has a deep understanding of the relationship
between a community and its leaders, and the needs of those who work to
live and thrive in West Houston.
Trustee Mullins received
her MBA from St. Mary’s University and was elected President of the
Graduate Business Student Association. Mullins is one of several other HCC
alumni currently on the Board. Her institutional knowledge will play an
essential role in developing a platform and creating success for HCC.
Community service has
played a central role in Mullins’ career, beginning with her undergraduate
degree in Community Health Education from Texas A&M University. She
served the largest healthcare provider in San Antonio – Baptist Memorial
Hospital System – as Community Health Education Coordinator, where her
duties encompassed marketing for physicians, marketing the health careers
programs and being a part of the expansion of the hospital system, which
had reached six hospitals upon her departure. She was a Lecturer on the nationally
broadcast audio conference “Community Health Education Issues in the ’90s.”
Trustee Mullins has also
been a civic leader. She served as President for Super Neighborhood 17. Her
tenure with the Houston West Chamber of Commerce includes serving as
Co-Chair of the Business and Education Committee and the West Houston
Public Safety Committee. She is a member of the Chamber’s Governmental
Affairs, Economic and Teacher of the Year Committees. The Chamber
recognized her work, naming Mullins the Committee Volunteer of the Year.
She also recently sat on the West Region P-16 Education Council, which
reviews and recommends curriculum alignment for area schools.
March of Dimes Walk
America, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Humana and Texas
Children’s Hospitals, Collaborative for Children, West Houston Leadership
Institute and Grace Presbyterian Church are several of the non-profit
endeavors to which Mullins has dedicated her time.
For all Trustee Mullins’
extensive commitment to her community, it is her family that is her
priority. She is proud of her sons, Kyle, 15, and Grant, 7. Mullins and her
family attend Grace Presbyterian Church.
