TRUSTEE PERSPECTIVE
Education is important to
Mary Ann Perez, not only for herself, but also for her sons and her
community.
Perez has a successful
Farmers Insurance and Financial Services agency in Houston’s East End. She
is a graduate of Houston Community College (HCC) with Honors, where she was
recognized by Who’s Who in Community Colleges and a member of the Phi Theta
Kappa Honor Society. While working and raising two young boys, Perez
continued her education at the University of Houston Downtown and graduated
Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration.
Yet, all the time she
was finishing her education and starting a career, her sons came first.
Perez was an active mom – volunteering at David’s and Daniel’s schools and
with their Little League teams. For many years she served on the Little
League Board of Directors and as their official scorekeeper.
Even with their busy
schedules, Trustee Perez and her husband, Vincent Marquez, have found time
to be active in the community. Perez is President of the Meadow Creek Civic
Association and Democratic Precinct Chair. She is also a member of
the National Hispanic Professionals Organization, Hispanic Chamber of
Commerce, Las Comadres, and has served as the district coordinator for the
Farmers Employees and Agents Political Action Committee.
Now, with both of her
sons having graduated from high school, Trustee Perez will endeavor to move
HCC and our community forward by working with area employers to ensure HCC
has the programs needed for today’s workforce. And she will work with area
schools and community groups to develop programs to keep children in school
and continuing their education.
